A group of 30 seventh graders has been busily working away today with Ms. Karen MacKay, an expert on Hydroponic Gardening, and what she calls vertical theory. Ms. MacKay has generously offered to come to PVC and teach us how to build a vertical hydroponic garden. We hope to complete four of these gardens by the end of the day in which we will grow several different types of plants indoors. Students have been working in groups on different tasks, such as sewing the felt pockets for the plants, building the wooden frame, preparing the PVC pipes, and video/photo documentation of the process. It’s amazing what we’ve accomplished so far!
